Description

Enhance your mixes and take them to the next level with A-EQ, designed to elevate your sound.

A-EQ introduces a modular approach with eight interchangeable modules, allowing you to extensively customize your signal path. It includes four bands reminiscent of the famous and powerful American classic EQ unit, along with three additional bands offering continuously adjustable parameters. The Preamp and Filters module further refines your audio. Additionally, each band features the HiQ mode, which maintains the original hardware’s bell-shaped characteristics but with a narrower bandwidth, providing precise and surgical control over your audio. A-EQ’s design prioritizes creative freedom and puts complete control of your audio processing experience in your hands.

A-EQ revolutionizes your audio experience with its modular approach, offering a versatile selection of eight interchangeable modules. This innovative design empowers you to fully customize your signal path, giving you unparalleled control over your audio processing.

HiQ is a bell mode like the original hardware but with a narrower bandwidth, enabling precise and surgical control over the audio signal.

Mid range bands
Choose between a tonal bell and a surgical HiQ bell.

Low & High range bands
Shelf as well as standard & HiQ bells.

Polarity inversion
Flip the polarity to make it negative, relative to its original state.

Preamp & Filters

Line Preamp
Low gain harmonics going from very subtle to punchy, with drive at +4 for soft harmonics and +8 for clipping.

Mic Preamp
High gain harmonics, results from evident all the way to a highly aggressive distortion.

I really love A-EQ. It’s currently my go to “A” type of EQ. It’s very cool how it’s modular and also efficient.

Analog feel in the box, for a nicely coloured american style EQ that you can easily customize. Great sound and low cpu usage It’s the magic of Sonimus plugins. They are all incredible!

  3. Nisse Björn (verified owner)

Sounds great. Very distinct, open and forward API vibe. Overall better sounding than some other plugins that clones API eqs that I’ve purchased earlier.

    Such a joy to use…!
A-EQ’s sound and ergonomy are top notch.

Controlling dynamic range is super easy with 3 preamps in serie. The sound feels “transparently” bounded in a stable volume range, keeping its timbral caracter (with or without new pleasing harmonics, depending on the source).
Using A-EQ for this purpose, meters and sound spectrums bounce beautifuly, they look “in slow motion”. If I remember well, driving the gain on my vintage soundcraft console was producing this kind of “sound stabilization / chaos removal” effect, though in a less transparent and “hi-fi” way.

EQ boosts sound super clean and modern. I compared with UAD API vision CS eq section and could not hear any difference (and overall, I was less comfortable with UAD’s preamp + less intuitive interface).

Next on my list: Satson CS (amazing compressor!) and burnley 73 (= gorgeous drive + elegant “smearing” silky smooth eq curves).

    Sonimus, you rule +++.

Fixed frequency centres (and the option to load a free-band) and the whole sound of this thing makes for making records rather than just mixing. Sensational.

Sounds amazing and the free bands give you more than enough control! 10/10

    Another great Sonimus product.

I am shocked from the first moment I used it! Fie love at first hear! . Today it is part of my top 10 plugs. The versatility, the preamp modules, filters. It’s not an API, I think it’s much more. It’s worth it

I have the Lindell 50 series, Waves Api eqs and this eq/preamp is the very best!

C’est un excellent plugin pour colorer le son et ajuster un équilibre si besoin durant le mixage….

I don’t have access to the API hardware so I can’t compare but I find this EQ well made with modern algorithms (de-cramp, oversampling with anti aliasing filter etc).
The two Q-values seams well thought out and sounds to me like 0.7 and 1.5
which is common on several analog consoles with two selectable Q-values.
And the proportional gain / Q interaction (same as the API hardware) feels natural and makes my EQ decisions easier.
The modular design is genius and is together with the overall quality the main reason that the A-EQ is now my new goto for musical EQ correction.
And last but not least, the pre amp saturation sounds really good and the ability to switch the preamp off (select line, mic, none), makes this EQ suitable for every channel in the mix.

I really like it’s character, crunchy but high quality. Pairs nicely with the a-console emu, which I intend to buy shortly. Y. Gagarin

    A-Console with lagniappe!

I still have a ways to go regarding the exploration of its functionality (haven’t put it on a master track yet, for instance), but there are things I can already say.
First off, it’s subtle. No over-characterisation on bandwidth control, keeping the audio tracks in good shape with everything you’d ever want an EQ to do to them otherwise. Cutting out the mid frequencies on an instrumental group? You got it. It’ll still sound nice and natural. Want an unmistakably grungy feel to the vocals without making you sound like you’re bellowing into a tin can? No problem. Want a small choir of backing vocals actually sound like they’re somewhere in the back while the lead threads the track undisturbed? Doable. I’m very happy with it, as you can tell.
I’d say it’s well worth the expense.

Really great sound! You might add the option of choosing between the standard setup and a setup with the three “free modules” (I use the “free modules” more than the standard modules😉). A “midQ” setting might be nice.
