We want to welcome to the Sonimus family our latest plugin: DelaySon—a modern take on the classic studio tape delay unit.

Delayson is our first plugin in the world of creative effects, providing users with a great-sounding and easy-to-use delay with all the character and saturation from vintage tape-echo machines. It offers warm, analogue-style echoes, with flexible modulation, tone-shaping and saturation controls. Its sleek and intuitive design allows music producers, musicians and enthusiasts to dial the perfect delay for their music. And the best part? It's completely free!

In this article, we're excited to give you a first look at the controls and usability of DelaySon. With its user-friendly interface, even those new to music production can jump right in and start creating!

Interface

DelaySon's interface is divided into three main sections: Color, Time and Delay.

Color

The Color section controls the character of the delay signal. The Mod and Tone knobs, together with the Low-Cut switch, allow you to dial the right tape sound for your productions.

Mod (modulation): Adds pitch variations, like the wow and flutter from the tape's natural movement.

Tone: This knob provides brightness control over the echoes.

Low-Cut: Removes unwanted low-end from the delayed signal.

Time

The center section of the plugin controls the delay time, wet and dry balance and output of the plugin.

The central knob controls the delay of the echo. It can be set in milliseconds or tempo-synced values (quarter notes, eighth notes, dotted…) based on the Time toggle switch.

The Wet/Mix knob blends the original and delayed signals, allowing users to add the plugin as an insert in the desired track or on its dedicated aux track (fully Wet) for finer in-the-mix control.

Delay

Finally, the Delay section controls the echo feedback, the stereo image, and the analogue drive.

The Feedback knob sets the number of repetitions, which can be set to any value between 0 and 200%, allowing you to create simple slap-backs to space-bending effects.

The L/R offset creates a stereo widening effect by offsetting the left and right channels of the effect.

Just like in our classic SonEQ, we have also added a Drive switch, which adds tape-style saturation for warmth and extra character.

Presets

On top of all these easy-to-use controls, DelaySon allows you to save your favorite delay configurations as presets for quick recall and also share them with other DelaySon users. It also comes with a great selection of plugins to get you started right away.

Conclusion

At Sonimus, we focus on delivering authentic and high-quality analogue tones right in your DAW. DelaySon expands our plugin ecosystem, offering our users a new creative tool while maintaining the warmth and musicality for which we are known for.

Whether you're aiming for slap back delays, low-fi sounds, infinite spatial echoes, or want to add some tape saturation, DelaySon is the perfect tool to achieve it. Its versatility will inspire you to experiment and push the boundaries of your creativity.
