Every time a new Operating System is announced, there is a shake in the software development area that lasts a few months, until everything gets stable again. Customers get bombarded with messages not to rush into updating their computers until the new software gets supported. And once everyone is certain that our regular tools are going to work, we can decide whether or not we want to update.

In early 2021, Apple announced not only a new OS but also a new computer architecture with their new ARM-based chip: The M1. A system in a chip that combines GPU, CPU, and Neural Engine. A machine learning design engineered to control and maximize the performance of the computer distributing tasks to the right places.

Without entering into the performance debate or if it’s worth the early adoption, it’s clear that the M1 is a paradigm shift for the Mac-based music creators and audio developers. Because of that, it is causing longer waiting times in regards to software and digital hardware to be supported.

In Sonimus, as part of our commitment to our customers, we provide an up-to-date and compatible software so technology doesn’t get in the way of their workflow and productivity so you can continue enjoying the analog sound from our products with no compromises.

It is worthy of consideration to indicate that in order to achieve full compatibility, Rosetta may be needed for now, otherwise, unpredictable behaviour could occur, in which case Sonimus cannot assure that each  plugin will behave the same way.

*July 2022 update – In the next upcoming weeks a new console emulation plugin with full native integration to M1 will be announced and introduced to the public. From there we will start publishing renewed versions of all our current plugins with full integration to M1!
